When goods are packed and loaded and prepared to be shipped from one place to another, the container may contain some other "passengers (kits)" such as insects, termites, and many other harmful organisms that have a real potential to transmit diseases. it occurs. And this is the reason why in most of the countries it is mandatory to fumigate the containers before they are loaded onto the ship for onward movement.
Fumigation is a method of killing, suffocating or poisoning pests within a specific area using fumigants. After the process the licensing authority will issue a certificate which should accompany the cargo to the other destination. Certificates confirm that the packaging has been fumigated. They contain details such as the purpose of the treatment, the fumigators used and the temperature range. Fumigation is mandatory for international transit. This is required under the IMO International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code or national laws.
